The Canadian Orthoptic Society (TCOS)
The Canadian Orthoptic Society (TCOS) was incorporated as a professional association in 1967 with founding member Kay Lunn as its first president. TCOS represents, advocates, and enhances the Orthoptic profession by:
- providing continuing education for orthoptists
- disseminating information regarding issues of importance to the profession
- providing channels of communication between its membership and the Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC)
- providing access to career opportunities
- providing opportunities to network with orthoptists nationally and internationally
Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC)
The Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC) is a regulatory body consisting of ophthalmologists and orthoptists. The COC is sanctioned by the The Canadian Ophthalmological Society to govern and certify orthoptists in Canada. Health Standards Organization and its affiliate Accreditation Canada are responsible for accreditation of the orthoptic training centres in Canada. For employment in Canada an orthoptist requires successful completion of COC certifying exams. To maintain certification each orthoptist must pay COC annual fees, and submit proof of continuing education.
